Been with ABF for a couple months now. The extra board is a pain in the butt but the web site which shows your position on the board really helps. It dosent take long before u figure out if the call is coming soon. You can also set the web site up to email and or txt you when you reach a certain position on the board. Wish I would have discovered this LTL stuff years ago. This has got to be the best driving job out there. Starting out and not having a bid you gotta expect your pay to be a little unpredictable but if you can stand that and put up with being on call for awhile I think this will be tough to beat. So far everyone has been very helpful and professional. This is a well run company but may have some trouble with competition due to cost structure. Contract negotiations are going on now so it remains to be seen what changes are coming down the line. Ill keep you in the loop. Until next time safe runnin and all the best to you and your family in the new year.

Id say the only way to tolerate LTL at the beginning is to go with a union company. I got hired on at Conway which is the biggest anti union place in trucking (Im very pro-union so we didnt exactly see eye to eye). I regretted leaving Schneider dedicated after the first week at conway. At least with a union shop the benefits are actually good and worth the jerking around on flex board.

I have to agree with you on Conway. Thanks to them I lost the best job I ever had, Consolidated Freight.

and I will third you about con-way. I spent everything I had in the bank because they only had me working 2-3 hours a day, and wouldnt allow me to work part-time during the week if I had no work. I am almost at what I had in my bank, but I paid off my cars first

The stupid part is I had 4 people under me in seniority yet somehow I was the only one getting shorted hours. I could barely pull off 30 hours a week and some weeks I had to work sat to even get 30 hours

No offense, but in the LTL world that usually means you're a slower driving when they're working the guys below you more.

Con-way will do that and it doesn't surprise me. They hate paying overtime. I hate the company for what they did to myself and friends while there. I also hate them for what they did for CF!!!

but union shops for trucking is the way to go. ABF is currently re-negotiating the contract
