Hey all, I’ve got a DOT physical scheduled for tomorrow morning. I’m trying to get a jump on things because of the BMI/sleep study I hear about. (I’m definitely over 35 BMI, and my neck is currently about 16.5”). I’m not planning on attending CDL school until the beginning of the year as I have recently quit smoking the lettuce for a better career. My question being, I’ve read mixed responses about the urine test being just for health or if they do health and drug screening. Is there a way to just have the physical done without the drug screening without it coming across as a refusal or denial? I’ve also heard that being too honest about this can flag you and I would need a SAP course (if I check the box yes). Thanks for any and all advise.
If your taking a medication. Ask your doctor for a note stating that your safe to drive a commercial vehicle. Present that note to whatever examiner. If the doc wont give it to you, then you should find another carreer
Nope, nothing to hide. I just know I won’t test clean for weed for a couple months still and don’t want that to bite me in the ### when I’m trying to be proactive. I don’t have any medications or issues other than waiting for my system to clear out and my eyesight (corrective lenses).
If I am reading your comment correctly you do not have a CDL. You are not subject to DOT testing. The physical use of urine to use a dip stick to check for proteins in the urine!
I need to clear something up! A clinic does do drug testing like this! They also have to start the chain of custody with the name of the MRO at the top if they do a drug screen. If you don't have a CDL and are simply taking a DOT physical there is no MRO in the process. YES! the clinic will want a urine sample! It's NOT for a DOT drug screen unless you are being sent there by a carrier to get it done! Folks need to understand for purposes of a DOT medical a CMV is defined as a vehicle over 10,001. You still have to have a medical card!
No I do not have a CDL yet. The CDL school suggested I go get a DOT physical done early in case I need a sleep study.. from my understanding the DOT physician has to refer me for the sleep study and then I go to my primary to get that taken care of.. is this sounding correct?
Don't jump the shark with regard to the sleep study! Give us a general location and maybe another member might know of an ME close to you that actually follows the rules!
So there should be no drug screening? It’ll just be a urine test for medical (like diabetes or whatnot?).. Thanks for the reply!
