The worse thing about trucking for me after 37 years is all the whining crybabies ! There seems to be allot of people in the industry in the last 20 years that are being held at gun point and forced to drive against their will !! I don't ever recall being happy about having to miss school plays or birthdays . Heck I have never even talked to or have heard of anyone being happy to miss any family event unless it was the mother in laws birthday . But we never used to hear all to woe is me I miss my mommy wa wa wa I didn't get to go home and sleep in my own bed crybaby crap I hear now days !! We used to man up and be glad that we were giving our families the best that we could . Where else are going to be able WORK and EARN the money you can with no real school dept to speak of than you can in trucking . All I can say is if trucking makes so ungodly miserable then for gods sake get out just stop driving right now call a cab and get the heck out . There is no reason to be miserable life is to darn short .
It's funny you say that. I have friends in the industry that get in their feelings if they're stuck out in holidays, weekends, or big events. I have missed just about every Christmas, birthday, etc in the last 9 years. When a person gets to a certain age, it's more about doing what you have to do instead of doing what you want to do all the time. Some people have it lucky where they can make more money working less. Most of us have to get out here and grind. So many people say they want more money, more stuff and such. I can't think of a time in my life in which making more money didn't come at a sacrifice. Any self made millionaire will tell you countless times they had sacrifice a "normal life." If it means keeping a roof over my family's head, I'll be willing to give up any holiday, regardless of the job I'm working. Besides, it isn't like driversddon't eventually go home.
