WHO....does not have forced dispatch...? Are there companies out there that give you a choice on loads.? WHICH ONES ARE THEY ??
Quite a few companies say they do not have forced dispatch. But if they have a load that needs delivered and you are close to it they will keep on badgering you til you finally give in and take it. This seems to happen more with weekend dispatch. In my short stint with Swift they claimed no forced dispatch. Then if you turn down a load your dispatcher will come back with something like , I cant understand why you turned down that good load, and then make you wait a long time for another load, or start sending you some really crappy ones.On the other hand Roehl was vary good about it during the week,(Mon. thru Fri.)But sometimes on weekends it was a different story. You turn down a load, and they come back with you are the only one close to the load and it is a hot load. So although no forced dispatch sounds really good, it isnt all that it is cracked up to be. I found out it was better to just ignore a bad load and eventually they would take it off of you. And when you turn down a load they want to know why. I have driven under forced and non forced dispatch and didnt notice that much difference. I know that Swift,( bottom of the barrel),and Roehl ( a better company) claim no forced dispatch.
Midwest Coast Transport(MCT) out of Sioux Falls,SD with a yard in Sanford,FL and Crete out of Lincoln,NE with yards all over the place, both have load select dispatch. This means when you get empty, you will be sent a "offer sheet" with multiple loads to choose from. You pick the load you want and away you go.
But if your the only truck close by you will be "forced" by lack of other loads. Your still an at will truck driver, working for a company. Mark
That may be true with Crete but NOT with MCT. At MCT you can refuse any and all loads, but if you do refuse all loads on an offer, then you go back to the bottom of the board.
Knight is not a forced dispatch. Which is very nice, however, when freight gets slow (Jan-Mar) you will take what comes your way or you sit - for free. Knight actually will run you where you like to run, so your dispatcher doesnt give you loads they know you will refuse.
