I am supposed to go take a driving test tomorrow for a company and they said all their trucks either have 13 speeds or super 10's. Problem is all I have ever driven (in school) is a regular 10 speed. Was wondering if some of you more experienced drivers could give me a crash course in the difference in shifting and is it gonna be easier for me in the 13 or super 10 if I have a choice? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

    First take a deep breath.

2nd do not over think this.

3rd. tell yourself you are gonna make it

The 13 won't be hard until you go to down shift. Keep in mind that your RPM jumps with a 13 are very small compared to a 9 or 10.

The super 10 is gonna suck but don't over think it either. It won't be too bad until you go to down shift.

Hopefully you get a test driver that can tell if you know what you are doing when it comes to driving but just need a little trans shifting practice.

If you're empty, don't even split the gears, just hit that high side and stay there.. At that point you can shift it like it's a 10 speed.

Google Super 10 Transmission and you should get a return for a video by Eaton Fuller (appx 8 mins) or try looking for it on YouTube.

i've been learning on a 13 but have used a 10 a few times. just get the pattern for the 13 in your head and remember it, just keep track of the gear you're in and where you need to go next and you'll do fine. once you go over the pattern you need and remember , its easy from there. i find the 13 easier then the 10, i dont like the shift from 5 to 6 in the 10.

Alright. I love a super 10. If it had 8 more gears it would be perfect.. lol. But its the most simple transmission.

A super 10 shifts a lot like a straight 10. But you split EVERY gear. The splitter is on the left side of the shift knob. I'm not going to over explain it because it may throw you. But if you want to know how it works just ask.

The shift pattern is the same as low side or high side on a straight 10. Just 5 forward holes. Say you start in 3rd. Run it up like you would in a straight 10, split it before you want to shift but not by much. Just enough to get it working inside. Move the stick out of 3rd and shift it right back into the 3rd gear hole. Now you're in 4th. Same for every gear.

When you move the stick all the way to the right you'll here a air click, like a splitter on a straight 10. Don't let that scare ya. Its just going into high side.

I've never driven a super 10 so do you split the gears like the old two speed rear axles?

yes. it is like the old 2 speed rear axles.
another way to look at it is if you drove a 13 speed it is like shifting the top side of the 13 speed. mainly you move the switch for each hole.
when i learned i learned on 9 and 13 speed transmissions.
the company i worked for started with 9 speeds, then super 10s, then super 10 top 2s, then they went to the 13 speed trans and i was happy with those. the top 2 were an auto 9/10 shift.
i hated those top 2 transmissions.
