Hi all, I was wondering what would be the best laptop to invest in, I am looking at a Dell and a Gateway, both with the same set up and both at the same price, only difference is the Gateway comes with a package, the printer, router and Norton Security. Just not sure which one has the best reputation. Thanks everyone.

Having owned a PC store I can honestly say I repaired more Gateway laptops and PC's than Dells.

So in turn I have a Dell on the road. It hasn't failed yet.

OK I am on my second laptop. But my Friends all have one.
    Dell sucks
Gateway used to suck but heard they are better now
I drive a HP and I run circles around by bud's dell
The problem is the more you spend the better
Trust me a 17inch screen is nice

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook. Am very pleased with the 17" monitor. Wouldn't trade it for anything. A few buck more is well worth it.

My first two were IBMs, trouble with the power cord each time. My last two have been Compaqs, no real issues with either one, I'm just upgraded recently to get the new Vista. I have a Lexmark printer I DO NOT like (came free with this latest laptop), and an Epson that has been great for 4 years - copier, scanner, printer.
About $700 for the basics (533 mhz, 512 memory, 80gb harddrive, CD/DCD/ROM, 17" screen) The prepackaged CA security is worthless compared to Norton anti-virus.
NOTE ! I AM NOT a gamer so I can't speak to how well this machine would do with games. I have LOTS of photo programs and thousands of pix and videos stored with room to spare and with no loss of speed.

Mac's have come a long way in the last few years, and the software is very universal, especially since the switching to the new processor they are using now. They are a little pricier, but I love mine and have NEVER had a problem with anything, including viruses.
