Are there any owner operators in the local trucking ? I have made a post in the owner operators section and have had great helpful responses. just looking to broaden my search
I was just wondering how you find loads? is it like otr where some use a load board or did you just ask around,or were involved in it before you became an owner operator.just wondering if it operates much differently.
I've been running local within a 100 mile radius of where I'm located. No logs and usually plenty of freight. I recently put in a 2nd truck and still doing pretty well. I find half of my loads on the boards and the other half are brokers I've dealt with calling me. I have one direct customer that I get 1 - 2 loads a week from. The brokers that call me that I've worked with for a few years pay well. The reason they pay well is because their customers pay well and I've handled those loads very well; always on time and with good communication. Originally, those brokers posted their loads on the boards and I called. After negotiating a decent rate, I got the loads and did a good job. So I got called next time it came up and negotiated and even better rate. It's not always roses, but it's been mostly good.
