Yard tire tech said it was fine as long as chunks weren’t missing from the tread. Wasn’t sure if I should believe him... I don’t have a lot of experience though.
From your picture I can't tell if the tread belt is pulling away from the rest of the carcass or if the black line around the sidewall is just the fringe of rubber from the recap process.
With the way the actual tread cap is separating from the casing that is just a new blowout waiting to happen. Once the tire gets hot the glue will allow the tread cap to loosen even more and it will come off. It could just sling the cap off and tear up some air lines or ABS wiring. My suggestion would be to get a tire put on there so you don't have a blowout to slow you down or cause a dangerous situation.
To me the pic looks like they simply didn't trim the recap correctly. Nothing wrong with that. Now if it's the actual recap separating (i.e. the "meat" of the recap), even if it's legal I'd refuse to pull it.
What’s it look like under that rubber? To me it looks like it’s just thin stuff that didn’t get trimmed off like mentioned above. Lift up that flap and see if the actual tread is separating or not.
Yeah; I think that’s what he had said. The fringe? Was sorta just like a flap on the edge. The tread itself didn’t have anything missing. That they didn’t do a good job trimming excess away.
