    just to chime in.. yeah, I get my 5-6 hours a night. More if I need it, but that's rare.

    Fortunately, dispatch doesn't care what I'm doing at any given moment. The ONLY question they have is "Can you deliver on time?".As long as that answer is "yes"... they leave me alone.

    RickG said something that wasn't right about split sleeper, the adjacent periods had to add up to 10 hours, it could be 2/8, or 3/7 or 4/6 or 5/5, 2 hours only stopped the clock once. I liked it better because it worked out better for me. The present system forces you to drive as much as you can in 14 hours, tired or not unless you can afford to lose drive time in a work period. 8 hours in the sleeper extends the work window by 8 hours

    How much sleep you get depends on your schedule, if you run any semblance of legal, you should get 6 to 8 hours plus a couple hours to nap if needed. If you take 10 down or more you can obviously sleep more if you like.

    The 8 hours of a split has to be logged on line 2; the 2 hours can be on line 1 or 2, meaning 8 hours in the sleeper and 2 hours in the sleeper or off duty. You can't split in a day cab from my understanding of the regulations.

    I agree. While I've never been keen on taking naps, I do think that if you explain to dispatch that you are a human being and you too occasionally need a shower, meal, or rest to continue to operate your vehicle safely they will understand. It's like my trainer told me - "You can get anything you want from the company and dispatch if you can find a way of making it a safety issue." Best advice ever.
