swift trailer

What is a d3 food grade trailer....I thought it just ment no holes in the roof and swept out....am I correct?

 

yes, and I think some times no wood floors

 

If I remember correctly, "D" stands for "Duraplate," which is a designation Wabash uses for its newer trailers (nearly all Swift's Wabash dry vans are this type); "3" means 53' trailer length; and food grade means a clean trailer with no holes, no foul odors, and no plywood walls. Some shippers also frown upon loading trailers previously used for hauling trash or hazardous materials. I hope this helps.

 

As well, no wood sides.
If you get a load like that it should be a newer trailer with metal side walls.
Wood floors are in even the newest 13 series, by the way.

I have never been clear on the trailer designations, but if 'food grade' is mentioned I always try to grab the highest trailer number possible.
And always sweep it clean before getting to the shipper, or you might be sent right back out.

If it smells of ANYTHING besides native wood, tell your DM that you need a different trailer - especially if it is for empty cans.
Empty cans pick up the smells, and none of us (especially shippers and receivers) want the smell or taste of chemicals in our drinks.

MOM = Malt-O-Meal. And I pick up there after nearly every home time at Inver Grove.
They are very concerned about the cleanliness and worthiness of the trailers.
