Have a cummins isx signature engine temperature hand climbs up to 215 empty or loaded only when pushing the throttle then the fan comes on cooling it back down it even does it when empty on the interstate just by giving it more throttle anyone have any ideas what's causing this
Easy fix for this is to simply shut the motor off and coast everywhere. With 30 years of experiance I figured you would know this trick.
Thats the exact same thing I thought when I read the orginal post. Engines heat up under use and the hotter it gets outside the hotter it will run. My ISX climbs up to about 210 then kicks the fan on and brings it back down to around 180, if your sitting above 200 constantly you may need to check the thermostat.
With a Cummins, the fan comes on at 207. If the fan is coming on at a hotter temp then you need to see what the ECM is seeing for coolant temp. It just may be a faulty gauge. If you feel the engine is running hotter and the fan is running more then check the rad and air to air for being dirty. After that I would try a new thermostat. Check your belts, coolant level and fan condition.
I'll try that heavyd the reason I asked was the cat c 15 I drove hardly ever came on always ran about same temperature compared to the cummins probably for every time cat fan came on the cummins comes on at least 10 times more
Having same issue with mine it's at 200 all day long no matter loaded empty even bob tailing... Going into shop tomorrow hopefully it's just the thermostat
