Hey hope well to all truckers out there, thank you for what you all do!......I have a question about towing with my semi truck and trailer. So i wanted to get your opinions and thoughts about this....This weekend coming am moving out of state with my semi truck and 53ft dry van.....now i have a smaller 20 foot trailer that i need to take with me but its doesnt fit inside the dry van....I already loaded my pick up truck and other little project car in the dry van today....I could tow it with my pick up truck and my wife could drive it but its a old truck with over 220k and not sure how reliable it will be for a 1200 mile trip considering my o/d isnt currently working. My main question is can I put a bolted up hitch to the bottum part of the back of the dry van, wire lights and tow the little 20 foot trailer in the back? Thanks for any feedback, be safe out there and have a great night!
Not likely but would depend what states you are driving in. But it would be safe to just say NO since it's a 1200 mile trip
Do you even have a double/triple endorsement in your cdl? Even for personal use, it's still a cmv, and requires a cdl to drive it. (Assuming, of course, it's registered as a cmv and not an rv.)
I actually do have that endorsement and yes i have a cdl been driving for 11yrs now but this will be a personal move.
Even though it's a personal move, it's still a CMV and all the regulations that implies. About the only thing you don't need to worry about is HOS, but all regulations that apply to a CMV apply here. But the biggest one, I think, will be length limits. Not sure what they are in the states you are going through, but it's worth checking out.
Yea i did a google search for towing and its way less length than what i want to do but now sure if that applies to a cmv cause it just said truck and trailer
No worries am just going to rent a pick up truck and my wife drive it....I rather not take the risk of doing that tow plus from what i been reading its just way longer than the law allows...am sure in texas and LA i wont have a issue but when i go through MS, AL and FL some cop is bound to notice lol
