What do you think about trucking company websites? Do you use them? Who is using them? I am trying to figure out how these type of sites could be utilized better for employees AND customers.

I'm not sure what context you're talking about.
From a potential customer's standpoint, any trucking company needs to have a professional and very informative website that answers many key questions they may have, and looks and functions good while they are there and presents a successful company that is professional and understands the current world and technology.
Larger companies have "driver portals" that operate at varying levels of effectiveness. The "typical truck driver" will not utilize an employee portal very much, regardless unless that may be the only way to obtain pay-stub information.
From a potential driver perspective, they must provide a clean and very informative website that answers most questions, including as much pay scale information that can be adequately and currently maintained, as well as on online driver app [PDF]. Many companies do not want to provide too much information (especially pay related) because they want them to "call in" where they (recruiters) can better manipulate the Q&A process
I don't work for a company that has an employee portal and as such don't use them but for new driver wannabees, I'm sure they use them extensively to the extent they are available. -
Depends on the company, many of them give customers full access to all their info and tracking, place orders etc.. As well as some of the mid size and larger ones give a lot of access to the employee to make changes, put in for vacation etc..
