Hubby was fueling at a Travel Plaza in OKMULGEE OK, and he was using a debit card for his fuel. They only allow $100 worth of fuel at the pumps at a time there? :biggrin_25521: They told him that it was his card, but we know better, because he fuels all the time with that card. Its got a daily limit of $5000, so thats not it.

WTH are they thinking? Had to be something in the way that their system was set up.

He put $99.98 worth of fuel in his truck and went on down the road to the next place he could get fuel. :biggrin_2552: Guess they don't mind loosing money.

I think I had to start over with 70.00
With fuel cost the way they are I assume the drive offs and credit card scams must really be kicking in.

It has NOTHING with reducing "theft". They do this to encourage you to use a "Third Party" Billing Service, like Comdata or EFS.
Credit card surcharges to the fuel retailer have risen year after year. Some Credit companies charge the TRUCK STOP .02 to .03 PER GALLON or more. Whereas cards like comdata and efs charge only a small percentage of that.

You know, your probably right. I hadn't thought about that.

Also, they get a per transaction fee from those cards, so if a guy has to fuel 4 time to get full, the CC company gets more from the merchant that uses their service. What a racket they've got going.

Well yes, you are correct. But let me toot my horn, and say I am also ;)

I watched the news last month, when all the 4 wheelers were screaming bloody murder about the limits placed on fuel purchases, and having to use a second card to fill up LMAO

Life sux in the fast lane LOL

But, I have to agree with the Truck Stops. WHY should they bear the cost of accepting a CC. Especially since most CC make outragous amounts of money off the user to begin with.

If you add interest charges to the charges that a truck stop gets hit with (or any other merchant), it easily adds up to 25-30% of every dollar goes directly to the CC company. Not your purchase.

Now a DEBIT card...thats a horse of a differant color. And they are quickly becoming a HUGE rip off. Stores love em, because it immediately sends the money to their account. But, I hate them. Because of fees incurred. I still write checks at home...it's much cheaper.

I guess I'm confused about this. You get charged for using your debit card? We have yet to have a fee assessed based on using the debit card, unless we use it at a foreign ATM to get cash.

We have had our personal debit card for years, and got his business account set up with the same bank, but a gold debit card.

Honestly I can't see the difference in the two, except that the gold has a larger daily limit on the card usage.

I was just reading an article in the Pilot Challenge magazine about this. According to Pilot, it was the CC companies that put these limits in place. I think it was $50 for one and $75 for the other, Visa and MasterCard. But the limits are only if you use the automatic card reader at the pumps. I assume if you go inside, you can pump as much as you want, no problem. I don't kow what the difference is, unless it's because they actually physically verify the card and driver's identity inside...saves from the fraud problem, I guess.
Then again, I'm just a truck driver.....and to think, 2 more weeks of school and I coulda been a brain surgeon....:biggrin_255:

    This is exactly the reason.

It has nothing to do with conspiracy theories to get people to use comdate, TCH, or anything else.

The problem is, pay at the pump purchases are being disputed quite often recently, and with no signature, there is little a company can do to force you to pay the bill.

You can thank the dishonest people in the world for causing this.
