I have heard, and do not know if it is true or not, but have heard of the steer axle and gear box being swapped out for one from a later model b model, and get the tighter turning radius.
    Has anyone actually done this?

I'd like to know as well. I'm swapping my factory axle for the wider steer axle for more wheel cut. Be good to know if I need to change the box as well before spend money on resealing it.

I have heard of it being done, but not actually seen it.
I do know that it is not just a matter of changing the box, but also the position of it from behind to up front, if the box is changed.

back when everybody was running A models and K100 cabovers, the steering boxes looked the same and bolted up the same, but were backwards. I know of some that swapped them and then the steering wheel had to be turned the oppsite way. A model gear boxes, especially power ones were hard to come by, while it was easy to find them for K100's, this led to some head scratching and I know of one guy who hit his door frame backing out of the shop on account of it.
I know another guy that had to have his gear box changed in Pa, and they couldn't get one for the AA model, his boss had him drive it turning backwards all the way back to Logan New Mexico. lol
