Hi Everyone,
I'll be starting orientation as a new Boyd Brothers driver soon. Looking for what to expect from there company in regards to orientation and training.
Also what should I bring along? I don't know if I'll be back home before we head out for road training. They say 7 weeks total training.
Thanks all!

Unless they have changed things, orientation is 1 week long. Then you get your trainer. If he lives near you, you likely will be home every weekend. If he doesn't it should be every other weekend and he will go home on the others (you will be in a hotel during his home time). At the end of your training time, you will head back to Birmingham for a week of testing, additional securement training, getting your TWIC card and assignment of your truck.
To my knowledge, training consists of teaching you about driving, logging, and the different types of cargo securement. As far as what to bring, my bf took a small duffle with clothes, shower kit, and the bare minimum of winter gear (warm gloves, a set of thermals, and a coat). He also had a backpack with food and his laptop. The only other thing he took was a sleeping bag and pillow. Remember that your space is the size of a twin bed. Your trainer may have a fridge and such in his truck but then again he may be one who eats out all the time.
One thing to remember is that your first check will be mailed to you not direct deposited. -
7 weeks??????

7 weeks, and good luck with your trainer. Its his truck and his space, you have a bunk and your stuff fits there ONLY. If your not a smoker, you will smell like one within a couple days. Plan on doing most of the work.

I am looking at Boyd Brothers strongly. I have received a pre-hire letter. I start CDL school on the 23rd. I will be finished on March 20. If you don't mind. Keep me updated on your progress. It's kind of difficult to tell what the right thing to do is. I can't tell what is BS. Or what is posts and reviews, and rating from drivers that are good, bad,or just lazy. This is with every company. Not just Boyd Brothers.
