I too learned the hard way about making sure a trailer is charged. I hooked up to it and it required intransit heat. hooked up the lines and opened the valves. Immediately the level in my radiator started dropping. I had 3 gallons of coolant with me so I poured some in, then some more, then some more. It was pouring right out the valve at the back of the trailer..DOH!!!! No one mentioned that valve... Chalk another one up to "live and learn"

WSYROB said it all correctly.....thanks for the great explaination.

JM2C...sometimes you will haul product that in winter you will NEED to run intransit heat, but in the summer it will most likely stay warm enough to deliver. The more you haul certain products you will learn that you want to run intransit heat on the product even if the bills say you don't have to because of the warm weather. It makes unloading so much easier when the product just runs like it is suppose to.

Not only is it a good idea to carry extra coolant for yourself...but for other company drivers that might run into problems and need some.

I work for LTC/Suttles/Dana and we NEVER open the intransit heat until we are in a company shop and they flush and fill the lines with antifreeze that matches the coolant in my truck.Sometime that is before we load it but usually after, pick up load and hook up lines but DO NOT opn valves until you are at the shop. This also prevents mixing red and green coolant.
