    Backing, yes. Forward traveling, no.

On a related note, why do tow trucks flash their yellow lights when not towing?

The other night, I was stuck behind an empty tow truck for 30 miles on the interstate going 65 mph to wherever he was going.

Total eyesore, and I had a headache by the time he finally took his exit.

No useful information was being conveyed.

Or the now removal contractors who run around from job to job with the LED spot lights left on on the back of the salt shakers

4-ways are the big-truck version of reverse lights, therefore, you should use them when backing up and they should be off when driving forward.

Here is my favorite list on the topic. AAA has a list of the 50 states and what constitutes legal use of 4 way flashers on a public highway. As you scan the list the lawmakers in the various states have many differing opinions as to what is safe. No consistency whatever.
2 states that have different laws under nearly identical conditions.
FLORIDA: The use of hazard lights is not permitted while driving.
GEORGIA: The use of hazard lights is permitted while driving.
I don't know how many times I have run in one of their "liquid sunshine" downpours in either state. It is commonplace for individuals to put on hazards during those events, while stopped or moving. Illegal in one, encouraged in the other.

Haven't been in years but Pa used to have signs saying to use flashers below a certain speed. One used to be coming south on 81 from the Scranton/WB area.

Unless you park on the fuel island and take a shower then you don’t need to use your four ways. :D

    Dave1837 and nredfor88 Thank this.
