For those who have mandatory driver facing cameras?

I've always wondered about this - For those of you in companies that have driver facing cameras, I know touching the cell phone with your hands is an obvious no go. I've read some allow blue tooth though so you could mount the phone.

But I wonder about other things with the driver facing cameras - Are you allowed to eat a snack (like a granola bar or something)? Are you allowed to drink bottled water? Turn the radio? Do you have to keep both hands on the wheel 100% of the time unless you're shifting or rolling down your window?

Or at most companies do they usually only bother you if you have a critical event and they go back and review the cameras?

I've always thought it would suck to not be able to hydrate yourself with water or to be able to turn the radio station, depending on how strict some of the companies with driver facing cameras might be. Just wondering how strict the policies are for companies that utilize driver facing cameras and what your experiences have been?

Depends on the company.. and what settings they have on.. Can they do all that you ask? Yes.. I was talking with the mechanic that installed ours he said they can have it record when ever you put your turn signal on anything that’s wired to the computer they have a setting to trigger it to record if they wanted. As far as snacking our cameras can pick it up and they pick and choose who they’re going to bother. Radio station or ac they won’t bother. They will enforce just enough to keep they’re drivers.

Not that many have driver facing cameras.
Swift did for a year or so. They lost so many drivers over it, and the cameras did not usually help them in any case. They are forward facing only now.

Although, the forward facing cameras can also 'see' what you are doing sometimes.

One of the training videos I just watched was about a driver that died, which was attributed to distracted driving.
In the video they showed video clips during the 30 days prior to the fatal crash.
In each clip the reflection on the windshield showed a tablet computer, sometimes with movies playing.
The driver hit another big rig that was stopped on the shoulder. His truck was burnt to a crisp, with him inside.
(Yet another reason to NEVER pull off to the side unless you have no other choice. The parked driver survived, but at what cost to him and his truck?)

These days it isn't the driver facing camera you need to be concerned about so much as it is all the other forward facing stuff.
Those things can detect your following distance, your speed and the posted speed limits, even if you roll through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop, cornering and braking forces.

Everything is monitored, and at Swift you take a hit on safety points every time you break a rule.
If you rack up too many points without taking steps to improve your driving, you are terminated.

What they’re really after is video of you licking your own balls. That’s worth a lot of money to them.

Had them for around 4 years now.
If it's legal to do it's allowed.
    Can't even touch a phone.
Eat,drink, adjust radio or heat/air, c.b. radio no problem.
OK to scratch yourself or pick your honker.
If it's viewed by the company as a distraction they will give you a copy of the screenshot and consider you coached on it, so eating a salad while steering w the knee or writing a letter longhand would be frowned upon.
