HOLY PTO!!!

I don't know about other locations, but locally the Private Fleet is pulling more grocery, and even refer loads off of the dedicated, due to that exact issue. People think the fleet will cost more than dedicated due to the wage disparity, but that is not true at all.

 

The meeting I went to last week. I was told that since they increased the number of drivers it saved 1.8 million. That was just at the DC I'm out of.

 

...in other words, it took $1.8 million from the drivers, because under the old system it would have been paid out in vacation/sick/personal/holiday pay, and with the new system the company keeps it.

 

No nothing about pto on the savings. They added to the private and used less dedicated.

 

Wrong. This new system will give MORE time off then the old system. Has nothing to do with putting more money in the companies pocket. This is a move to be more competitive with other companies similar to ours. Having more drivers means more money to pay out for PTO. I fail to see your logic.

 

Somehow, he seems to think that his wife, who has not been with Walmart for 10 years, is going to have her paid time off cut in half. Basically, this means that his wife is getting about 3 1/2 months off a year, currently.

I would like to see the math on that one. Also, is his wife a Walmart driver?? Is he a Walmart driver?? Just curious.

She gets 3 weeks vacation time per year. Plus sick time. Plus personal time. Then there were the holidays she used to be paid for. It all added up to quite a few more hours than the "max pto" hours she'll be allowed to accumulate under the new system. I don't have the booklet right here in front of me this second, but the new system darn near cuts her paid time off in half. If you want a paid holiday, it costs you some of your PTO hours, instead of being in addition to your allotted vacation/sick/personal pto. Don't have any pto hours left? You don't get paid. Maternity leave. Old system, you could take all of your vacation, sick, and personal time that you had available. Now, you can only use PTO until the short term disability kicks in...which is capped at 50% of your pay OR $200/week...whichever is less. You've got to exhaust that benefit before you can finish using your accrued PTO, so you'd better be able to get by on $200/week for a while.

This change is a corporate thing, not just for the drivers. There may be tweaks here and adjustments there based upon different methods of compensation, but it's basically the same system being implemented. I said in my 1st post in this thread she's in the retail division...and according to the way your anniversary date is figured in the new system, she'll be treated as a 10 year employee since her 10th anniversary will occur later this year.

I'll try to get the hard numbers from her this weekend...maybe even snap a pic or two to post of the booklet explaining some of the changes.

 

Well she is not a driver so i dont have a book here to your right or not. I can tell you thats not the way it works out for truck drivers

 

Truck drivers get 75% of average daily pay for short term disability no cap. That is covered for 26 weeks. I know mine comes out a hell of a lot more then 200 a week.
