Has anyone had experience with a Mercedes Benz 4000 engine? It’s in a 2005 Freightliner I’m interested in. Thanks!

Not very common, not many folks know much about them. Might be hard to find parts being they aren't super common. Especially considering its 2022 and supply chains are frigged.

They sound cool. That’s about it. Plus you get a Mercedes emblem so that helps me score the fräuleins. 5/10 would not use the Strudel Machine

I had a 2006 for six years, the next buyer is still running it, so 15+ years it’s still working.
Kind of gutless, weak engine exhaust brake.
Always started, even at -34c. 6+ mpg. Cheap to maintain.Shawn2130 Thanks this. -
I agree, kind of gutless but will pull up to 63,500 kg gross here.
We have a 2005 Sterling dump truck with the 450 hp Mercedes. Used to pull a pup.
Always started. Never plugged in.
Been reliable for us as we’ve had it for 5 years now.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I drove a '03 Columbia with one for a few years and never had any problems with it. Had 1.2 million miles on it when I quit the company. Was pulling tankers and they never load light. Decent power and always started right up. And on that '05 the only emissions crap would be an EGR.

I like mine. Not powerful but dependable
Shawn2130 Thanks this.
