I haul a lot of campers. I had one guy ask me to do that and I still don't understand the point. My insurance covers everything I haul just the same. If it is damaged they cover any expenses to get it back to like it was, if it's totaled they pay the owner full value. It don't matter if they are named as a 2nd insured or not it's covered, period. So, what is the point in someone requesting that? Just gives me extra work and makes my insurance company ask a million questions. Just a hassle for me so I just turned the job down.

The insurance is for non trucking liability ( bobtail insurance ) when not pulling a trailer.

Are we all done here. It’s painfully obvious that the industry and manufactures have delivery problem. Any industry that has jobs to fill and can’t find enough people to fill it has a problem. Most of the CDL people I was working with are now in North Dakota driving water trucks. What's left are the few full timers and all of the sessional people. They wrap it up by June and head back home. This is the norm for this type of job. I sat this year out, but will go back next March for the 2015 season. It would be my 4th year.

Would I recommend this as a career - nope. It is what it is. At best a sessional job.

Gee, I have done it full time since 2003. I know a great many that do it full time.

It seems the entire trucking industry has a problem. Can you say driver turn over? Sure, I knew you could.

Like Roadmedic, I haul RVs all year. And no, I don't have a pension or any other income besides hauling RVs.

Team- The main trucking industry problem is that not enough younger people are entering the profession. With RV Transport it’s not enough older people are entering. Of course it’s a mixed blessing. The older RV drivers up until this year had keep the “per mile” number artificially low. This is the first year in the last 6 that in mid season several transport companies had to rase their per mile pay.

I don’t want to minimalize the efforts of full time drivers. I know a few who are doing it and making a living at it. The industry does not need me to defend or support it[FONT=arial, sans-serif]’s efforts to hire. There are very few positive comments on this or other forms that paint an overall positive picture of the industry. It is what it is. I understand what it is, but just as important I understand what it is not. I’m often asked at rest stops by truckers and curious individuals if it’s a guid job? My response is and will alway be - maybe. No amount of comments by me on any web board should convince anyone to try it. My situation is an RV delivery companies dream come true. Early 60’s, Government pension, no debt. I have been towing a fifth wheel for 6 years. It’s a hobby - that’s all. Approaching it as such is not meant to degrade anyone who does it as a profession. Been running since March, really enjoy the freedom and "no hassle" of the company i work for, wish there was more backhauls but who wouldnt.....have met alot of really nice people and received some good advice from some that ive applied...definitely not going to get rich doing this, but i wasnt born rich , so have no dreams of dying rich.....equipment wise im running a 2013 ram 3500 drw.....not really happy with the way dodge has choked these new trucks to death with all the emissions (they had to also lock the ecm so you cant tune it if you want also, really sucks atm) so if anyone looking at buying new atm i would definitely test drive (put a load on to do it)...my 13 is averaging 18-19 empty (70-75mph), but falls on its face down to 7 pulling (58-62 mph), ive been in rams ### over the low loaded mpg but they are hiding behind the "we dont rate these trucks" story.....thing is , dont let the dealer talk you into the higher gear ratio rear ends (mine has 3.42's)...they claim with the 6.7 coupled with the hd aisin auto 6 speed that these have plenty of power for towing and fuel mileage...my fault on believing that, should have went with no less than 3.73 or 4.10..coupled with the aisin 6 i think that would have been a better combo. Engine has to work to hard to maintain mph while towing therefore 5 and 6 gear are almost useless to stay in the rpm torque range. Dealer just done some software updates to the tranny yesterday, havent pulled with it yet so jury is still out on whether or not it helps, but did notice on the lie-o-meter that i was getting 23.7 mpg (empty) running 70 down i-24 coming home (up a couple of miles).

Just out of curiousity i did drive a new ford 6.7 and will honestly say it would eat my cummins alive. Dont know about how long it will hold up, but power wise it was twice the truck, plus ford isnt locking their ecm's so if you wanted to tune or delete i believe you still could...but ive owned dodge products for so long i would have to move to europe if i ever bought a ford.
Anyone driving a new ford 6.7 would love to hear honest opinions (not Ford rocks, dodge sucks bullcrap)
Hopefully the tranny updates help out.

To anyone thinking about doing this, main thing is SERVICE THAT TRUCK.. mine gets lubed and oil change every 7500 (dodge says 15k, thats to long on these soot generators)
Hell im done rambling lol :biggrin_25525:
