If you plan to move to Oregon or Washington, look at the trans-system website. Plenty of year round freight and Western Regional or Northwestern Regional. 3 companies under one umbrella company. Have some terminals in California also. There's no personal state income tax in Washington.

That old battleship was like a floating museum. They were obsolete after WWII in reality. The Navy realized that during Vietnam; they never could get the powder mix right for the 16" guns when they started remixing the older powder with the new powder. The Navy was fun before political correctness ruined it. I went AWOL once in Hong Kong for 3 days, but they couldn't do anything about it because we were with the XO & he said he gave us a direct order to stay with him in a hotel room full of booze and women. If that happened today, careers would be ruined and lots of brig time. The motto back then was, "when in a foreign port get stewed, screwed & tattooed." Those days are over!

The XO was one of a kind; came up through the ranks from enlisted & had the Purple Heart.

Hope I didn't seem crude, but that's just the way it was at that time. Even an E-3 could stay 20 years if he wanted to. The detailers in Washington dispatched them as Leading Seaman/Leading Fireman/Leading Airman, etc.
