One word: insurance
Sky high quotes and I would be handcuffed with a new MC trying to bring on a bunch of drivers.
Besides I'm doing $3-$4-$5 a mile, sometimes more and I really don't mind the 10% for what they offer me.
The very best owner operator carrier, 90% pay!

I've been looking to make a change and MAG has been on my radar for a couple months. I never knew of them and I've lived in the Augusta area for 15+ years - they're just down in Dearing, GA. Found out about them thru my bud at the local Freightliner dealer in Augusta.
Getting things aligned to get this going. -
The biggest problem with having one truck and authority is the DOT safety rating system. They put me out of business. Was inspected 9 times in a year. Most of those inspections were level 1 and 2 all pass all of them. Only had one level 3 inspection and i failed it because trailer brake lights were not working. Anytime you get a out of service violation, the inspection is classify as level 3 inspection.
In the East coast, DOT rarely do a level 3 inspection even if you begg them to. So, in my case, i had 8 level 1 and 2 pass inspections and one level 3 failed inspection. According to my safety rating, my carrier is highly unsafe and i am at 100% out of service since the rating only counts level 3 inspections. If i had 2 trucks, one truck failing means 50% out of service. Brokers wants to see 80% pass rate or less than 20% fail rate. With one out of service, it is not possible to bring my numbers to 80% pass since i would need (4) more passing level 3 inspections. I couldnt get 3 scale houses to do a level 3 inspections by asking them.HopeOverMope Thanks this. -

So after i quite my authority because many brokers wouldnt give me loads because my carrier safety ratings were bad, i found out that i was unhireable due to the one out of service violation. Landstar, CRST, and a few mega carrier denied me because my PSP score was too high (90+ is too high. I got over 200 points) since the out of service racks up points fast due to the 3x in year 1 rule by FMCSA.
I have zero claims, zero accidents, zero tickets and zero moving violations, have over 12 years experience with CDL, over 1.5 million miles of safe claim free experience. Yet I was deemed unsafe, and unhireable due to the DOT inspections.
Having my Authority, and being hounded like a criminal by the State Troopers almost destroyed my livelihood and ruin me financially. MAG took a chance on me and i have proven again, that FMCSA is a waste of taxed dollars since i havent had any claims and accidents. Based on FMCSA safety model, I should of been unsafe.bbechtel16, wrongway09, RollinThunderVet and 3 others Thank this. -
