Dhout should remove the rose colored glasses and take a hard look at the business end of a truck, before he buys......

I would love to pick and choose where I go. I would only work 3 days a week and all my loads would pay $10.00 a mile. :biggrin_2559:

Seriously though being an o/o isn't the best option for the majority of truckers. It takes a great deal of buisness sense to do it the right way. It also take a lot of hard work to make it profitable. Yes I can go home when I feel like it. But I kind of like the fact that I can pay my bills too.

Guess what? As an owner/op, you still have to go where freight takes you, or you don't work, and if a load compromises your home time a bit, you have to deal with it. If yo get TOO picky when you're leased onto a carrier... they cut you loose.

If it's a major deal like a graduation, wedding, etc, then you'd better make sure there is a strong window on either side of the event...JUST like as a company driver.

I always got a laugh at the expense of company drivers who would want ONE day off, out of normal freight routes, and HAD to be home at 0800, but wanted to leave the next day, and a whole ot of other requirements.

Sure, let's just call "brokers are us", and we'll have them build some freight, and make up a start and finish place that works just right for you. Anything else? I used car with EXACTLY 62,000 miles, in green, with no more than 35% window tint... and make sure the license plate has some cool letters in it.

Sorry, but WE don't make the freight - we haul the freight that other people make, and we do it on THEIR schedule.

I get far more hometime as a company driver as I ever did as an o/o.

As an O/O, Select = $3+/mile with no tarps, permits, etc and over 500 miles. And it would be Premium if I didn't have to strap or chain it down.

What does the DOT have to say about that? :biggrin_25519:

But hey, I can drink a gallon of water and not have to pee. Another benefit of flatbedding.
