Vineland NJ to Sebring FL, Cost Per Mile?

    How much would you charge to take a refrigeratored load from vineland nj to sebring florida? $4 a mile?

    Depends on the operating cost. $4 is higher than the $3.59 I just saw for a load from nyc to Sebring.

    I would call it 1225 miles. You either have to go to at the very least Tampa or Orland to reload. On the front end its almost 50 miles from Philly to Vineland.

    Id say to get enough attention to actually move it immediately. You should quote the customer $5500 to $6000 range depending on pickup times, drop off times, temp, weight, and how important the freight is. If you can move it for $5000 to $5400 range that would be good for the carrier, you, and the customer. If you have some lead time then could probably work it down to $5000 and move it for $4500. The thing is, very few people want to go south from there. Most would rather get back to the Midwest or head cross country. Therefore, you either pay someone to take it, or wait for someone it works well for.

    Now, if its team, haz, tanker endorse, multi pick or drop, then it all changes.

    The reality of it all is you quote $4500-5000 and some desperate carrier will under quote you $2500. Who do you think the broker will call back? Unless this is a load that has to move now, you’ll be moderately under bid. But, what do I know? I don’t have a reefer. On the dry van side, a load can be posted 20% less than the market value. There will always be that one carrier that will haul that load below market value no matter the loss.

    Aren't reefers kind of tight in the northeast right now? It'd be awful generous of you donating your truck on that for $4 a mile. You're going to have to deadhead to Atlanta for even a half assed decent reload or farther probably so $4 is woefully thin to cover that. From just about anywhere in the country just the posted rates in to FL are about $3.50 a mile. You can do a lot better than $4 without hardly trying. Everyone is paying it because no-one wants to go to that dead hole and piss away their truck's time when they can be hanging around most any other region in the country on can't miss loads to virtually any direction.

    It would help to know if this is a direct customer offer versus some freight broker. Is it weekly, multiple times a week or just a one off? If it is any of those and from a broker you should always charge as much as you can possibly get because they're going to forget all about you the second after they source somebody $1 cheaper. If it's direct then you treat it differently from brokers as long as they are a good customer.
