I'm also looking into starting with PAM despite what I've heard. From what I've observed on this site most newbies can be expected to be treated badly their first year. Not pretty but true, like most other industries. I won't be starting with Driver Solutions until the end of the month because they require you to be 22. Drive safe out there. Have a nice day. Would love any advice.

My boyfriend has been working for PAM transport for about 3 months now and hasnt had the best of luck with them. I'm getting ready to start the training course to go with PDS. We are going to team up and hopefully have been times together. I've enjoyed being on the truck and riding around with him. I've learned a lot so far and I'm sure I'm not going to have any problems driving the truck or learning everything there is to learn. If anyone has any info on PDS like pay or days off or anything, I would appreciate it. Thanks and be safe.

Just remember if you have a good attitude you will get treated well if you have a bad attitude, you will have crappy miles and crappy loads.

Very good point. Not everyone can be a truck driver. Many people get into the industry thinking it is going to be glamorous...but when they see the reality of it all they do is ##### and moan. Those types will never make it OTR.

Do your homework and go into this with realistic expectations...and you won't be disappointed. Go into it expecting "milk and honey"...and you will be disappointed.

Take the bad with the good, work hard, treat others with respect...and you'll do fine with most any company. PAM is just as good if not better than other companies that sponsor schooling. If you don't like them, go somewhere else once your contract is up. If you can't make it with them for a year, you probably shouldn't be behind the wheel of a big rig.

Yeah this is Narly. PAM is a good way to start out. other companies might pay more but often they want money up front. Most people don't realize it but pam is the third largest in america. it has a few other companies under it's umbrella. You will notice pam trucks pulling decker and mcneil and some others. Like wise Decker puling pam trailers etc... Good starter and if ya keep a clean record and do good log books you can become a trainer and trainers make really good money. double miles so like 60 some cents a mile. takes 6 months to get there but they say it's worth it. Don't expect to make a whole lot your first year and never get mean with anyone. They can make your life hell. Just always be nice and treat them as you would a customer in your exclusive business. It takes time to learn that you got to keep that drivers door closed and stay on the road to make a buck the first year or so. Hope you like living on a truck. mine is setup with internet laptop refridgerator built in heater closets and a nice twin or single sized bed. not sure which it is yet. lol it's a mini mobile home really with out facilities! #### it. There are toilets you can buy but it's just as easy to pull over at an establishment and use theirs. Pilots are the mini malls of trucking and a good place to get a shower for free if you fuel there with the drivers payback card. comdata cards suck ###, you get paid on them. you have to setup direct deposite or take it as cash at a pilot and it will cost ya a percentage to get the cash of the card. sems no matter what ya do with the card somebody make smoney off you. Fix that with direct deposite and transfer the funds as soon as they hit the card and you should have the cash in your bank in 24 hours. FRIDAY wait and you might not get it until middle of the next week. good luck And watch out for the Bible thumpers.

The concept of living in a truck is truly foreign to me. Specially using public toilets - I can deal with public showers a little bit better however. I turned down C.R. England and after much research decided to go with PAM. I'm expecting it to be rough but I'm hoping that my work ethic can sustain me for at least a year. You see, I have pretty much the same plan as most newbies in this industry. That is, suffer and slave for a year then move to the local trucking markets.

Now, sitting for a day or two waiting for work does not dissuade me. I figure since I'm new I am giving all this learning time to settle in my head plus I'm not averse to sight-seeing (better bring my bike). There are a lot of good trucking companies in the tri-state (NY) area but none will consider you without your typical year of experience. Although I have seen ads requiring only 6 months and even 3 months of experience but these are rare.

I really appreciate all the information that all you wonderful people provide in these forums. I also understand that there is a lot of misinformation too. And let's not forget your garden variety smear campaigners, provocateurs, etc. They're out there too.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll remember to keep a good attitude. I have less than a week to go before I can apply. I'll try to remember to keep you guys posted. Thanks again and drive safe.

Im not really sure I agree with this...pretty sure JB, Schneider, Wal-mart, Crete and a few others are running more trucks than PTSI. Including all the CEX, AFS, PAM, PDS, and Decker "badged" trucks under PTSI control.
