Going on 2 months at Carvana. I wanted to give car hauling a shot because I love vehicles. Who wouldn’t want to drive a 100,000 vehicle that you would never buy lol.

The hiring process took less than a week. Had an over the phone interview, then Received an offer letter and background check. After start date was confirmed they flew me out to Bessemer Alabama for 2 weeks of training. Also did my road test when I traveled for training. Had a room to myself with a stove, fridge, microwave, 2 couches and king size bed. Pretty nice actually. You are fed lunch on the days you train which are mon-Fri. You have you come out of pocket for dinner and lunch on the days you don’t train. They reimburse you $25 a day for dinner and $15 a day for lunch. They have talked about giving pre paid Visa cards for this so you don’t have to spend your own money. I had 8 people that were in my class and we all got along and helped each other. We also had a great trainer who took his time explaining things to us and showing us what we needed to know. It will take way longer than 2 weeks to become a good car hauler, I figured this out the very first day by myself lol.

Now to the stuff y’all want to hear.

I work at the concord, NC location it’s an inspection center. We have 74 drivers as of now but people quit left and right. Very busy and hectic yard to work at. Not a lot of room. We have 5 day schedules and 4 day schedules. Different locations might not be the same. The 5 day schedules are for locals who mainly work around 8 hrs a day. The 4 day schedules are people who work 10-12 hrs a day. I’m currently on a 4 day Running to Beckley, Wv and swapping with another driver. I come in at 5:00 am and load my truck, I’m usually back in concord anywhere from 3pm-4pm depending on traffic and when the other driver gets to the meet spot. All of our schedules are home daily. We have loaders that will help you load and unload if they like you lol.

The pay is salary, at concord they start you at 66k. This varies on location. You get a $2500 raise after 90 days and then another $2500 raise after your first year. I know that’s low for a car hauler but this is also a company that trains you with 0 car hauling experience. They give a $500 quarterly safety bonus. If you sign up to work an extra day you get an extra $525 dollars added to your paycheck. If you sign up but they don’t need you that day they still give you $50 extra dollars. The health insurance premium is free for employees. They offer all the other stuff as well such as dental, hsa, disability, etc. You accrue 144 hrs of pto your first year and 160 hrs your second. They give you a company cellphone which you also use for your logs ( keep trucking)

All in all it’s not a bad place. Very hectic at times and they are still new so they are still trying to figure out what works. The communication between drivers/managers/dispatch could be better. The trucks are a mix of freightleiner 75ft and 80ft with autos and manuals. They have outward facing cameras and are governed at 72mph. You might get lucky and find one that is 75mph. It’s all slip seating.

with that said i drive over an hr to work so the commute time is starting to aggravate me. I have my eyes set on old dominion which is 10 mins from my house. That’s if this job doesn’t work out. Most of the drivers are willing to help each other out,I have met a lot of good guys. If you don’t mind being physical And wanting to learn then I would recommend giving Carvana a shot.

if you have any questions I will gladly answer them
