I've seen the threads explaining the 8/2 split but I can't remember if this was in there or not.

I've noticed if I take consecutive 8 hour SB breaks I always get back more than what I was expecting. How is this figured? I finished my week with one of those "no hurry" loads so I played around with it to try and figure it out. I failed lol.

Im on a eclipse logbook program. I think I know what your talking about. Someone correct me if Im wrong, but, I've found that if I take 2 hours off duty followed by an 8 in the sleeper and drive till the rest of my 11/14 that was left from the end of my first break and then take another 2 hours off duty i get what ever hours were left from the end of my 8. Does that make sense? Like piggy backing a split sleeper.

8/2 example. you have 11/14. drive 1hr to shipper. sit at shipper 6 hrs. lost 4 hrs driving time. sit for 2 more hrs to equal 8 hrs. now you have back the 4 hrs you lost at shipper. drive 5 hrs take 2 hour break. drive 5 more hours to equal 11 hrs driving. take 10 hour break

I guess I should have given an example. I'm just going to use drive time here.

Started my day Wednesday with a full clock at my house. Drove to reciever, delivered, went home. Used an hour and a half. After 8 I had 9.5. That part is no surprise. Left out that night for Alexandria. After I got there and went SB I had 2 hours 14 minutes. After 8 hours SB I had 4 hours 40. Drove to my pick up and than to the truck stop. Started my SB with 1 hour 20. After my 8 I had 8 hours 30.

I'm not complaining about getting more time back than what I was expecting but it would be nice to know where these numbers come from so I'm not guessing/surprised with what I have to work with.

are you saying you used 8/2 more then once in a 24hr period. if that the case you can only use 8/2 once then you have to take a 10hr.

I didn't use the 2 part of the split. 8 hour break Wednesday at home, 8 hour break in Alexandria when I got there about 2am, than an 8 hour break after I picked up in king William VA and went to the truck stop in Ruther Glenn. All sleeper berth.

that's not how it works. you cant just keep taking 8hr. you have to take the 2hr and then show a full 10hr. the 8/2 only allows you to regain time lost. once. you cant just keep taking 8 hr breaks. you have to show a full 10 hr break every 24hrs

Any period of 8 or more and less than 10 hours in the sleeper is not counted against your 14.

Doesn't matter if you ever take the additional 2 hour break.

correction. when you use the 8/2. you dont have to use the 2hr but if you use the 8hr and drive the remainer or close to the remainer of your 11hr you have to show a full 10hr break. you cant just continue to take 8 hr breaks

I wasn't shooting for a full clock after the 8, I know that's not going to happen without a 10 hour break. My question is, how to figure how much time you will get back after the 2nd, or in this case, 3rd 8 hour SB.
