I carry a mountain bike in my truck, lots of days I won't ride it due to it just being too dangerous in the areas. So I was looking for options and being that bicycle riding is the magic thing for me health wise I discovered the 'bicycle trainer' and thought it might work in my truck. They come in many variations, mine is like a small foldable bike stand that you put rear wheel axel connected into and the tire rolls over a tension device.I bought a cheaper magnetic roller model from Academy, and it works with my Trek with 29er wheels. It has a tension setting, but you can increase tension with your own bikes gear system too.

So yeap I can pedal away inside my truck, neat benefit of having a bunk is you can just prop front forks on bed, the trainer stand holds the bike great using space between two front seats. It does feel like riding outside pretty close except the device does make quite a bit of noise while riding, but doesn't matter in truck, you can pay more for quieter fluid models. Mine was $130 btw.

I didn't see anyone talking about this, but it can be done and it's pretty simple too. The reason I like this is it gives me a bike to ride outside like normal, also something to exercise on safely inside the truck. Apparently during the COVID lockdowns these sold like hot cakes and so they are easy to find now.

Ever try using trail apps? I use Trailforks and have found tons of great spots to ride.

I've got one, but way too little room in the truck to store it. I just mount as many daylight visible flashers on the back and pay attention to my bike mirrors vigorously on those little-to-no shoulder roads. If I really want scenic, I'll just fold the bike up and catch a rideshare to a trailhead. Of course this only works up in the Denver area where I frequently head with tankers.

    baha Thanks this.

I ran into a driver awhile ago at one of our terminals who had an exercise bike, kinda like a spin cycle thingy in his truck. It set up in his cab between the seats and stores on the top bunk. He had some medical scare that got his attention. I think it was blood pressure, but I don't remember for sure. Anyway, he had lost over 50 lbs (diet changes too) and said he used his bike daily in his truck. He looked good and he said he felt better than he could ever remember.
    D a m n!! I should think about that! Lol

I have trail apps, but the majority of times I'm not near trails or it would require a long ride or paid travel just to get to a trail. There is a nice thread on this site with hiking trails some do have bike paths. Having the trainer fixes pretty much any issue with locations or weather.

Yea I was thinking of just getting a stationary bike, but having a real bike to ride and then the ability to just add the trainer was best. I've had 4 different mountain bikes inside my truck over the years so I'm quite use to popping it up on my top bunk with front wheel off using quick release. I'd recommend this method highly, but if your truck is low on storage it might be a hassle to store inside, I ride a decently nice bike so storing it outside is not a thing for me due to theft.

You could always just get a cheap Walmart bike and store it outside, cheap bike plus trainer might cost 300 range. If I didn't have my nice bike I'd do that.
