What is the best way to get to Charlotte from Chicago? I am thinking I-65 to I-70 to Dayton then catch US 35 across Ohio. Then get on I-64/77 and follow I-77 down into Charlotte? How is US-35 before Charleston WV and how much does the W. VA Turnpike cost and does it take EZ Pass?

Been a while so I'll let others say best route. But yes, WV takes ez pass .

35 and 33 both good roads

I run that way several times a month. I run the 35 route. Only downside is that from mm36 around mooresville on 77 on in to charlotte there is ongoing construction and you're coming to a stop and backing up no matter what time of day. Morning rush on that stretch is a nightmare. Budget an extra 45 minutes just for that stretch.
35 is good road they raised the limit to 70 on most of it just watch the 60 zone south of Chillicothe to just past Jackson they'll be watching for you. About 20 miles of 2 lane just into WV but otherwise not a bad ride.
I've got an ezpass so not sure of the exact cost but not expensive on the pike.
40/26/74 is a waste of time unless you're delivering on the west side then I'd go that way just to avoid the north side construction. -
Heritage11 Thanks this.

I'm always heavy coming back and the pike is downhill for the most part in that direction and I hate the right lane only redlight hell through Shelby
I guess 6 of one half dozen of the other. Flip a coin lol -
noluck Thanks this.

West Va, Western Maryland and Northwestern Va is some of the most beautiful places you will ever see. However you also want to avoid them in a tractor trailer if you can. I am ignorant of currant road construction and the current stage of the loop around Charlotte. I would always go south through Louisville to Lexington to Knoxville to Asheville to Charlotte just to avoid those dang mts.
