There was a story some time ago about greatest excuses for why people went off the road. One of my favorits was...
"I took one look at the mother in law and that was when I knew I had to wreck it"

 

Looks like he grabbed the last roller dog from the lunch rush.

At 7:30 p.m.

 

In 1998 I was a supervisor for Penske Logistics. We ran meet and turn relays from Bethlehem PA to Richfield OH every night. 15 drivers and loads started at each end and met and exchanged trailers in Clearfield PA.
One of the Richfield drivers, at about 8PM on a clear evening in the summer drove right off I-80 east bound in PA just after the scale at MM 53, went through the grass, and slammed into the building. He had been on duty for about 3 hours. Needless to say the PA State Police carefully investigated the accident, and determined the driver had probably fallen asleep.
The driver maintained he had a piece of hard candy in his mouth, and began to choke on it, and lost control of the vehicle.
He was fired.
The Teamsters Union took it to arbitration. The Board reinstated the driver.
