Boyd doesn't have a pet program from what I know. I do know that the lease purchase guys r allowed I think. Also, boyd is Flatbed only. N depending on ur location hometime is great. I haven't had a problem with my home time. Now sayin that, its not guaranteed every weekend, but they do try. If u have/want to b home a certain weekend than it doesn't hurt to give them a weekend. I've done it a few times to guarantee myself home when needed. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Does Boyd allow large inverters and ham radios.
I have a prehire with an orientation penciled in on 12/27/10
Is it a lot of drop and hook or do they keep the trailer and reload more.
As a student/rookie what would the majority of my loads consist of being from N Illinois.
While with a trainer...Do we both sleep in the truck or does the trainer hit a motel when possible. Thanks for any replies.

They do allow inverters. I think 2500 max. As far as radios go, not sure bout the whole ham thing but some drivers got some pretty big radios. While with a trainer, we have all double bunk trks. While on road both sleep in trk. They flip flop weekends. One weekend at ur hometown the next at his. While at his u will b put up in hotel n other way at ur hometown.

Even as a rookie, u will load all loads. And we do a lot of drop n hook n live loading. Bout fifty/fifty. Just depends on location. Bein from illinois u should expect a lot of steel loads. Try not to get up there to much. Enjoy the south to much. Lol. Any other question feel free to shoot. Will help u out any way I can. Good luck n God bless.

Thank you very much for the info. I am really happy that they allow big inverters. I would like to cook in the truck.
I have done a lot of research on different flatbed company's and Boyd looks real good and honest.
Will Boyd supply me with a list of what to bring while in training?
I am told I will be in Cincinnati for a week, 4 weeks with a trainer then one week in Birmingham for securement training.
Would I go home after the first week of training or do I head out with the trainer?
It really doesn't matter but I am trying to figure what and how much to bring for clothing and creature comforts while in training. I really appreciate your help.
I take it you are a trainer with Boyd? thanks!....Chuck

I've been in training for a couple of weeks now. I went thru orientation in Cincinnati. As for your training schedule you might go out with a trainer as soon as you done with the one week oreintation,or it might not be for a couple days. They will probrably leave you in the hotel untill you go out unless you live close to the terminal and drove yourself.

Yes they should email a list of what u will need. If not they should send through the mail. N once ur first week is dun, like prize said, u may have to hang out a few days until they can get a trainer to u. U may luck out n trainer may b swinging through that week. The final week in bham is easy. Just remember ur training is all. I am a trainer myself.

Flatbedding is a way of life. It's one of the most dangerous jobs u can do. It's hard n easy at the same time. Any other questions bout boyd or Flatbedding just shoot. I'm happy to help out.

Goin to the DMV bright and early Thursday to do the pretrip and drivers test.
We had a TMC recruiter in class today. Their pay sounded pretty good and their trucks are sweet but their reputation of how they treat drivers (so what I read) really concerns me. I am still a Boyd fan and am going to stick with them. There has to be a reason for all them long term employees.

I see Boyd has a lane or runs into Mexico now. Are there any tips anyone can offer for security while in Mexico? I am very aware of violence in Mexico City and the US border areas. Do they get you in and out or do you have to stay over night there? How far in do you have to go? Are there safe areas while loading/unloading and am wonderin if they send the rookies there.

You will not go into Mexico, infact you will not go into Mexico with any comany. American truck drivers are not allowed into Mexico. Almost all (if not all) Boyd loads go to Laredo TX and get dropped at there drop yard there. If you want to be home every weekend I doubt you'll get down there much cause they would have to find you a run straight back to your house. But that would really depend on your driver manager. If you are going to stay out longer you'll probrably get down there alot as alot of the steel loads around you up there go down to Mexico. As far as security we didnt go into the town of Laredo the truck stops are all a few miles out of town and were really busy so with all the people around they seemed pretty safe.

That's what I've been told. I was given two explinations one is it's too dangerous, and two its part of NAFTA. I don't know which if either of those is the correct answer. Hopfully some one here can enlighten us all.
