Looking for advice on getting into the oilfields

Haliburton and Schlumberger will get you a cdl if you're on a crew and they need you to move equipment.
Where are you located?

 

It's coming back but not what it was 4 years ago. All companies are 'trimming the fat'. Oilfield is feast or famine so get ready for the ride.

NOT in the oil field.
You will see what you have to go thru and will laugh at anything less then 80 a year and a company man.
North dakota is 100 a year as a company man.
They don't pay that cause its easy.
Dirty, hard work. Lonely in ND and cold as cht in the winter.
Not sure about what its like in TX.
But you WILL be disenchanted when you see what you have to do for the money. And when you say 50k a year? After taxes, you will regret saying 50k a year.

I hauled oil and sand for 2 years. Was a crude trainer and safety guy for awhile also.

Besides the point its SLOW as can be in ND right now.
With the Iran dealing going thru, they will pump 500k to 1 mill of bbls of oil per day on the market.
Expect to pay 2$ a gallon before thanksgiving.

Oil fields here in Merican have dropped like a brick.

 

NO CDL, makes it difficult to get started. You could always given Stevens a call about their oilfield division, which runs in texas. Pay is on the low side, but it will give you a true idea of what it is like.

you are too late, brother. The rush is over. Don't waste your breath and time, there are better jobs in Texas. You live in one of the better states for job seeking, I wish i live in Texas, there are so many jobs there. I was on a Frac Crew, which requires a CDL, which I have. I left the oilfield because I figure I can make almost the same amount of money back home with a normal non-oilfield job, living with way better conditions. It wasn't worth it for me working 20 hours a day. I rather work 20 hours a day back at home. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago, I would tell you to go for it. But right now, do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else.
