Chances are they will run you good for the first 90 days, good miles each week if your OTR. then once you come out of the house from days off, they send you to the other side of the country, and there you sit running that regions loads, till it's time to go home.
Long Gone are the back to back 2000, mile+ runs.
Marten is/ has turned into a regioanl company throw in intermodle as well.
It wasn't this way 5 yrs ago when i started here. Then about the 3rd year one could see slight changes, the 4th year more changes, the last year, big changes.
I don't see OTR getting any better. And yes i have tried many time to get onto the region i live in, and all i get from the guys incharge, Brian in Wilsonville, we are not hiring right now. But yet i just left Ontario,Ca where we do one of 5 orenitation classes. 5 new hires are hired for western regional.

skibum, how come they wont put you on the western regional ? Is it because you live in nevada? I was thinking about western region myself but not to excited about running up and down I-5. and you only get a day and a halif hometime every 7-10 days. A western region guy told me this. but maybe he was bull####ing me.

Pick the reason, all told from the people who over see western regioanl.

You don't live near a major freight lane ( there are gen mills frozen loads to the walmart dc east of reno at least 3 times a week out of Ontario, via us 395 which the town i live in,is on,,,and constant Gen Mills loads out of Carson,Ca going north up the coast.

We are not hiring right now for the western Regioanl... Ya because all the new hires are getting prefreances over the senior drivers.

You would have to turn your truck in and get an older model. My current one is a 2007, was brand new when i was put into it. Regonal get the older trucks, that are closer to tradein.

I could care less about the 7-10 days out. I do 30 days a tour, then 405 days off.

Get this ,,, i asked to be moved to the Midwest Regioanl on Tuesday, and the reply was , you don't live in the midwest. I then asked, why am i always running regional there, once i leave the west where i live? No one could answer that.

the electronic log has not been a big issue the last couple months. been getting loads with time to get them to where they gotta go with no big problems. Overall, Im getting about the same amount of miles that i was getting on paper. If this keeps up, I will be ok with the E-log. Its nice to be able to roll through the scales and not have to sweat it. :smt017

Still been talking to others who say the planners still haven't about e logs, and they are still getting loads, based on a paperlog.

Other nite while I was in the sleeper, my E-log put me on duty for one minute, then kicked me up to off duty for the rest of the nite. It did this by itself, forcing me to wait an extra 45 minutes in the morning till I could leave. In the past I have had some issues with the E-log so I called Qualcom and they updated it.

I've been on the eLog with an Omnivision system since January. I didn't dawdle around with the 7 days training keeping paper logs. I went straight away onto it. I rather figured it would make things so much the easier on both sides since they could see at the press of a button or two if I was a liar about my hours.

I also went to the extreme of building an Excel spreadsheet recap based on the idea of a minute-by-minute specific log book (as opposed to the original recap I built way back when and kept updating). This puppy calculates out how many hours and minutes you have for tomorrow and the following days all the way back up to 70 as well as can keep track of a 34 hour restart and will calculate a rolling 7 day total of miles logged if you enter them and a conversion chart for minutes to decimal numbers. So I can look ahead all the way back up to 70 over any number of days and inform the FM how my hours will look. I'm planning to include a screen shot of this recap--if I can get it to attach properly.

At any rate, I thought a paperless log with "them" able to access my hours I'd start seeing some miles. Add to that the ability to inform the FM of availability over days with accurate numbers; I really thought things would pick up. So far, I'm seeing many problems with loads dispatched in a manner totally inconsistent with running a paperless system and as for planning hours days in advance, it's a waste of time. Nearly every early delivery is met by some late pick up with several "go do this" kinds of things in between.

The simple fact is Marten's planners are not utilizing the hours I have available in a reasonable fashion and I'm losing time and money because of it. The really bad part is it seems like no one is listening in Mondovi.

Maybe after 16 years I've just become a "bad driver...?"

On my 8 day tab on my elogs, the above is already done. Then under the status tab at the bottom it tells me how many hrs gained at midnight.

From mid Sept, till the time i got home a week and half ago,, not once did i have to do a reset.
this tour out, i may have to reset. Having to run hard from seattle to chicago to stay on time.
