Placing tractor on comprehensive insurance

    Hey guys, new owner operator here. I'm going to do part-time agricultural hauling and my truck may sit for months sometimes.

    If I place my insurance on comprehensive only will the FMCSA:
    1. Find out (is the insurance company obligated to report to them?)
    2. Place my authority on hold if they do find out.

    I don't want to pay the expensive road insurance and liability while the truck sits.

    I don't think insurance has an on and off switch. I wish it did. I'm on the road for 10-12 weeks at a stretch. Then home for 10-14 days. I would sure like to turn my auto insurance "off" for 90 days at a time, then turn it "on" for the 2 weeks I actually drive my car. I don't think truck insurance is any different. I may be wrong.

    It does for personal vehicles. It's called storage coverage.

    As far as personal vehicles go, I've been able to "pause" my road coverage with Farm Bureau and place it on comp only in the past. Vehicles like my motorcycle and Jeep during the winter months for example so I know its possible with the insurance company. Just wondering what the FMCSA will think about it.

    As soon as liability is set to be cancelled/put on hold the insurance company is required to report it to the FMCSA
