recent Penske rates I got from them, with a national negotiated rate account (through our trade organization). These are from withing the past year, probably went up a little.

    S/A daycab $119 / $595 / $0.11
    T/A daycab $124 / $620 / $0.11
    T/A sleeper $132 / $660 / $0.11
    that's day/week/mile

recent Ryder numbers, but we lease a truck from them and get a discount there as well as a result, these numbers I believe are current.
    SA Non-Sleeper $124 $620 $0.12
    TA Non-Sleeper $136 $680 $0.12
    T/A Sleeper $157 $785 $0.12
    again that's day/week/mile

the non discounted pricing that you get off the street is a lot worse. No deposit required with the trade organization or the already existing lease relationship, just show up and rent it. We provide our own coverage through our regular policy.

Yase12278 and Midwest Trucker Thank this.

Looking good. How many trucks are you running if you don’t mind?

4 straight trucks and one TT, plus rentals as needed. One straight is a lease truck, rest we own outright. We're a HHG/Moving company.

    Midwest Trucker Thanks this.

Are you able to share about this trade organization? I’m running quite a few more trucks but your beating me on pricing with these big chains.

I’m very competitive through my local dealer but not always in the area when a problem could occur. Thanks.

The lease company is Ryder, for a 24' straight truck. Their price beat Penske and the sales person who prepared the quote was much easier to deal with and listened better than the Penske folks. I'm sure these things change from month to month and year to year so YMMV.

Trade organization is AMSA, American Moving and Storage Association. They provide me with some other services I need (arbitration, etc). I don't rent a lot but the discount really helps. I've never used transadvantage, though they advertise at me like mad. I know they cater to the HHG crowd but I like the 24/7 maintenance facilities that ryder and penske have. We have tight schedules on most of our moves and have specific arrival times so being able to go get stuff fixed while we wait can be a real life saver. The ryder location is 20 minutes away, 24/7 and has an automated wash bay. When I've had service done they've done it overnight, drop it off in the afternoon, pick it up in the morning. 0 downtime.

I don't know if other trade organizations have NRA discounts with Penske as well, but I had been renting from Penske for years at full price when I ran across the rate listing in an AMSA newsletter and it blew my mind. I told some other guys who own companies in the area about it. One of them actually ran a penske rental yard (a small one) and the amsa rate was better than what he got as an agent. It's a good deal.

Rates also may depend on location, etc. We're north of Boston.
