Another route is 64 from Dinosaur to Meeker, then 13 to Rifle. There are a few curvy roads, but no steep grades. I did get stuck behind some people herding sheep on the road once, though.

I-80 is better for fuel if you are heavy. I-70 might be ok if you are light.
US-287 from I-80 to I-25 is a roller coaster, might be better if you are light, still a lot of wind in the flatlands south of I-80.

For future refere
If you're feeling brave (clean pair of shorts) next time, go south to 70, then take 50/550 So. to Montrose and take 50 East over Monarch pass. It's a lovely drive...………………….we sometimes use it to separate the steering wheel holders from the truck drivers (or SWIFT drivers from their trucks)loudtom and cgilliland Thank this. -
