Leave it in gear and turn the truck off. If you have an auto pull the Johnny bar to keep from moving on scale.

He can set the brakes on the drives and will be just fine...

also i believe if you shut an automatic off while in gear they wont start back up....it has been a few years since i drove an automatic and that may have changed.

The door sticker says my 2015 Cascadia steer axle is rated at 12,000 with 295/95/22.5.....

You may have given the correct answer. While I have always set my brakes, I do know that the instructions on the scale says do not set the brakes. I never knew why. I'm gonna give this a shot from now own & see if it solves my problem. I have to say that all of our trailers are air ride & no matter, its still all over the place. But, I am willing to try suggestions & ideas.

Mine is a 2013 with same tires grumpy and says 12360...wonder what changed....

also...Louisiana,Mississippi and Indiana are all 12,000 weight limits on steers now and Louisiana is writing tickets when over on steers.

Not so! The front axle on most Swift speced Cascadias is rated for 12,000 lbs and the tires for 12,350 (6175×2).

I wouldn't set the brakes on a truck with full air bags on a scale, but that's me.

Not all air ride trailers drop when you set the brakes I hate them, mine doesn't but I did have a dump valve installed so if I want to I can drop the trailer for a low dock, I run 24.5 rubber all around.

    just my 2ct.:
I had always overweight on VolVo and Cascadia, when I pull my truck on scale and scale "call" button just next to my window, that way steer is in front of the scale plate and it always over on steer,
but now I placing steer in the middle of the scale plate and never use brakes, no problem at all.
or maybe I just found golden middle on 5th wheel.
