the only reason you see holland at your pickup location is because they service a different type of freight than we do at roadway.

holland tends to work on truckload 3-5 day shipments while we do time based LTL and small pallet specials - yellow focuses on markets where they have a next day a 3 day premium service established.

teamsters health insurance does not cost me a penny out of pocket - in fact my last bout in the hospital cost me a grand total of 11 bucks plus 20 buck copay for a 3 day visit.

as for your former union employer I hope you are comparing apples to apples since not all unions are the same....

so was it a teamster freight company?

well to answer questions about ups freight they are getting worse...i am currently employed here and since the teamsters came in yes i said teamsters the place has gotten worse....we all now know we made mistake. company use to be good place to work when overnite.. which we were non union.... this company has gotten so bad...we are losing runs and guys getting laid off for no reason.....we have plenty of freight so not due to the economy. outside carriers and contractors stay busy so the union in my opinion sucks and its one of strongest unions in country(710) and still cant company to abide by art. 43 and 44 which states no contract or rails while company drivers in lay off....so to close unions suck.

My husband was a UPS Freight driver - in a non-union position until yesterday evening. They had lost the contract to haul and every driver at their yard was laid-off.

We VERY much appreciated his being a part of the UPS family, and for the most part, it was a GREAT place to work. We very much regret he didn't have enough seniority to be able to stay with them in some other job, but he only had a few years with them.

Insurance, benefits, pension - everything is wonderful there - and not many companies can match what they offer.

No matter what you hear on this board - if you get an offer to work for them - MY HUSBAND WOULD TAKE IT IN A MOMENT!

But - with losing their jobs - each of these guys are just "numbers" to the hierarchy of UPS. They were let go due to a "restructuring / downsizing of the workforce" By listing their terminations that way - UPS does not have to continue their insurance benefits as they would for a laid-off driver. Some drivers have even started to hire a lawyer - because they can't get much needed information from UPS concerning their financial options and vacation time.

While it's a WONDERFUL place to work - it's NOT a good place when they don't need you anymore! The union side is different.

once again could you please tell me where your husband worked out of. and if he was in a non union position he had to be at a sattellite...last sun. the 5th of july i quit could not stand the company and the union not telling the truth....we had guys laid off and they still sending out freight on the rail and private carriers so nothing to do with your theory of the economy lots of freight.......but whatever i have just as good a job if not better....with a smaller NON UNION carrier.....well take care.....

I hear a lot of drivers say that they loved Overnite. I know if I get the chance to get on with a LTL carrier or UPS Freight I'll be all over it.
