    Hello drivers.
Just curious what can 1099 drivers can deduct on taxes?
I’m aware of stuff like hygiene (soap, detergent, tooth brush/paste), per diem, clothing.
What else can be deducted? Is there may be a list? I don’t own my truck so truck expenses are not on me.

    thank you in advance

Everything related to work. Especially if you own a rig.

That stuff that you normally use is not deductable. You would (hopefully) use soap, detergent, tooth brush/paste even when you are not in the truck. Not deductible. As far as clothing, only things you need specifically for the truck job are deductible. Like safety shoes yes, sneakers no. Gloves. yes. Some people get creative here but don't overdo it.

All of the expense related to the chase of the dollar.
As mentioned, some of your daily use items are not.

Your phone bill. Your internet bill. If you're 1099 then you are entitled to a roughly $67 day per diem deduction for every day you are not at home.

Your work clothes and boots, gloves. These are all legitimate business expenses. Anything you buy for the truck that your company doesn't reimburse you for.

You are also you're own little trucking company in effect.

This means after your expenses are deducted from your gross, you are entitled to an additional 20% tax credit.

So if you made $70,000, you have $10,000 in expenses and per diem, you're adjusted gross is $60,000.
Now you get 20% of that $60,000 written off, or $12,000 right off the top.

If you are being paid and said income is on a 1099 you can only go up to the standard deduction. The days on the road etc etc. If you are also wanting to deduct things like fuel etc I recommend using this form as well. When I was doing recovery (repo) I filed this form. You can do both. I do think at least at first to find a good tax preparer to help you the first time. This form can be VERY confusing and you should follow the instructions to the letter. In all the years I used this form I never was audited or had my 1040s returned.

Also things that are for protection. Dash cams, any type of aftermarket security device, blind spot mirrors.

As funny as it may seem, if you have a dog, it is considered as security as well so all of its food and any bills related to it (not squeaky toys or tennis balls). Not even joking.

If you have to do fed AND state returns be careful.

States may not allow what fed does.

Are you the truck owner, if your being paid on a 1099 and driving someone else’s truck that’s illegal, and you can’t deduct any business expenses.

This is true, thankfully most states want that figure from line 11b as taxable income, not line 1.
