I can't speak for Willis Shaw, but there isn't much going on at TMC right now. Freight is way way down and I've been struggling to keep ahead of bills. It's not just the north east either... I have been all over and it's the same. Or maybe I just have incredibly bad luck getting loads.

well since not all of the sister companies within comcar are hiring right now. I Know CT Transport isnt hiring right now because i called their recruiting department. Im thinking either willis shaw has an abundance of freight or a shortage of drivers thats why they are hiring.

Im thinking reefer would be a safer bet right now than flatbed. No matter how bad the economy people will still have to eat.

I'm thinking the same thing bigpapa! I put in a call to KLLM and I'm just waiting to hear back. This is a slow time for flatbedders anyway so the economy situation just makes it worse. Atleast # KLLM or similar company you can haul it all so to speak. Refrigerated, dry, hazmat, etc. Good luck to you and have a merry christmas and happy new year!

I know what TMC did to the areas I used to frequent regarding rates. They slashed them down to what a van would get and lower.

And how can these guys be on a continual hiring binge? Everyone is implementing hiring freezes and or closing down their driver training schools. And here is TMC still hiring like all is well out here? I don't get it? Flat bed freight is near non existent out here, and what is available is paying spit. The few guys I know that are still pulling flats are either living in their trucks or are looking to move to vans or reefers, if they have not already done so. And the few that are hanging in there are taking 700+ mile trips at a decent rate, and then dead heading all of the way back with an empty trailer. If they get one load a week they are lucky, and if they get two, oh boy!

I honestly don't understand the TMC strategy? Is it that bad over there in regards to driver turn over or what? And like I said, I have experienced what they have done to rates over the past two to three years, and it's disgusting. I have to wonder how they keep the doors open and the trucks full. Someone explain that one to me.
