wow this sucks

I've been at it 2 yrs now and I still sleep like #### in the truck. The only thing I hate about being gone is the fact my wife is due in a month with our first child (a boy) and I hope to heck I can get home for his birth.

 

I agree with everything you stated except for the lifestyle part. I don't know how a lot of people find this to be a lifestyle? How is your job a lifestyle? My lifestyle is what I do at home and what I do with my family. Driving a truck is a career for me, not a lifestyle.

Be it lifestyle or not you still should do some homework before you go in to trucking. I've not been on the road for 30 years, I only did it for 4 mo. with a buddy when I got out of the service and found out it wasn't for me at the time. I wanted to raise a family and all of that. Well now that my youngest is in collage and I have been laidoff from my job I'm going to give it a shot. But I have spent a great deal of time looking into the industry and asking friends and family about this move.
I also went to the local truck stops and spent some time talking to drivers and looking around on fourms like this. I think I know what I'm getting into and hope to make this my last career.

 

You have to stay positive and ride it out a bit longer but if u cant it is a free country do what your little heart desires.

 

my friend the only dumb question is the one that you didnt ask, thats what we are supposed to be out here for to help each other.
you just keep on asking questions and ill keep on trying to answer them and i dont care how old the question is . if the question is asked it deserves to be answered.

there are a lot of people that are a little to pickey and a little to critical just consider the source and keep on seeking the information you need , you will usally find your answer. luck to you.---southernpride

I experienced many of the same thoughts and emotions when I started as you have. I've been out here nearly a year now and even own my own truck now (own, paid for, not leased). It takes time to get used to this industry, the ups and downs, the loneliness of being away from the family, etc., but it gets better. I was fortunate enough to have another driver to prepare me for the emotions, etc. and to be there to call when the going got tough. A funny thing happened to me along the way, I've grown to enjoy it and now, after I'm home for a day or two, I start getting restless and I know it's time to hit the road again. Hang in there, it will get better!
