I don't have the XE package, but heard it will turn 1000 rpm at 65 mph, and fuel mileage is meant to be good. Now take this how you want, these words came from a Volvo salesman.
I do have a 2008 D16 with ishift and wish my fuel mileage was better.

After driving stick shift trucks for 31 years and 4 years with the ishift, I will never buy a truck with a stick shift again. Does that tell you how I feel about the ishift ?
My fuel mileage is normally in the 6's. Overall average for the truck since new is 6mpg. That includes idling. There again I normally only drive between 65 - 67 mph.
I've got plenty of power 535 horse.
The truck I have is an 08 model year, built August 07, first year for DPF. I've had my fair share of problems, from turbo, wiring harness, injector cups and the list goes on to a whopping $55,000 in repairs out of pocket.

I have been driving mine with the d13 in it. I average about 7.5-7.8 mpg, long story short I love the I shift. Only problem I have had thus far is that my turbo went out on me bit it was under warranty.

We just bough a 2014 730 Xe. 500 d16 ishift 3:21 ratio. I haul super b 140,000lbs(63,500kg) I go to work next week and can let you know what I find. I talked to a guy running the same weight in the mountains and he says with that torque he can keep up with the tri axles. Says on long pulls he sometimes puts it in manual to drop a gear. I got mine bumped to 550 horsepower, ask your salesman, mine had to email Volvo direct and get permission.

I'm sorry I haven't let you know of my progress. Turns out Volvo Canada made a mistake and lied, the horsepower cannot be bumped. I still have yet to drive my truck, the pto would not engage so Volvo has had it in the shop for 3 weeks trying to figure out why. After finding the problem, they engaged it and because the hydraulic pump was installed to rotate the wrong way (installed by third party shop)it snapped the pto which in turn threw metal into the transmission. So now my brand new truck is getting a brand new transmission and pto before I even get it.

i am praying this is not a taste of things to come, I have been without a truck about a month now.
