A mile away from much needed home time today, one last right turn into down hill. Shift into fourth take the corner, upshift to fifth, quickly trow it into od apply some throttle... JERK and a BANG!!! The sound was horrible, it sounded like I dropped the tranny or drive shaft. Drove around the block and parked it, I got under the truck with a flash light but didnt see anything. Surely I ###### something up, Im worried sick about it. I will need a whole bottle of jack to get sleep tonight.

You can't do anything to change the outcome...get out the Jack, have a few and check it out tomorrow.

Easy to say, hard to do...good luck.

You ran over the neighbor's dog! :)

Double check U-joints and carrier bearing. Other than that, uggh!

What kind of miles do you have on rears and tranny since rebuilt or have they ever been. It could be any of the 3

865k on the truck, never been rebuilt as far as I know (ex fleet truck). I planned on changing out all the oil anyway if a gear broke there will be metal in the oil or on the plug. Is there a way to visually inspect the gears and the power divider without taking the drivetrain apart? I thought perhaps buying one of those digital inspection cameras and have a close look at the gears.

My home time is gonna be spent wrenching hahhaa. Two cars and bike need some work, also need to replace thermostat and the CAC, change the shocks and flush the radiator on the truck. Theres fun to be had this week :biggrin_25520:

I would pull the plug on the tranny and look for some abnormal pieces since you said that's what it sounded like and that's about right on mileage for a tranny to go out. If not there then front drive. Something should show in either place. It's hard to diagnose it without feeling it first hand and having a gut feeling where it's at and with the miles it could be either.

not sure of the sound but i had a worn fifth wheel a while back that felt/sounded similar to your description and it always made it right after straightening up from a good sharp turn.i could feel it as it happened and it felt like i dropped something each time.

    just a thought.
