Do you have to log a minimum number of hours/miles to maintain a CDL Class A? Will you be at risk of being down graded if you are not driving for some period of time (while keeping physical current)?

Nope. As long as you maintain you med card, your CDL as tested for is for life.

Well unless you get it revoked for silly things like drunk driving....

I had mine for 12 years and was not using it. Just had to renew it when I 'renewed my regular driver I.d.
You earned it, its your now. Some states don't mandate a dot unless you leave the state.
2 quickest ways to lose it. Dui and running fast enough in a semi to be considered reckless.

Too bad a lot of companies look at you as "stale" if you havn't driven in a while, whatever "a while" means!

As long as you keep your physical current and your eyesight stays good you can keep a CDL until you die. For the record in some states, you can also self-certify and get the "K" restriction and you don't even have to have a Physical. However, you must be able to pass the vision tests!

Downgraded. Oh my. Imagine being relegated down to the point of having to haul people’s rug rats back and forth to school in an oversized, Oscar Meyer banana boat! The horror!!!!!

I almost got downgraded after passing tanker or hazmat endorsement test. Guy at DMV accidentally listed it as a class B. I quickly rushed back to get it fixed

What is this log the OP keeps of the types of vehicle he drives for when his license renews?

I think the tone of the OPs question indicates the OP does NOT have a CDL!

    Todd727 and Don379 Thank this.
