    Hello All,

I am very new to this forum and please forgive me if my question sounds silly. I would like to know, how much per mile should i charge for a load? is there any rate or per mile sheet that i can find somewhere?

    Thank you.

    Depends.
    Load of what?
    Which area is it going?
Knowing your cost per mile to operate.
How much fuel would said load miles take? Mountainous terrain(more fuel usage)
    That sort of thing.

HI Judge, Thank you for your reply. I would like to haul between Joliet, IL and OH< MO, MI area. I have a 53' Dry Van and a 2016 Volvo. I am just not sure, how much per mile I should charge or how to work out pricing. I used to be a company driver for a small logistic company for almost 5 years.

Apparently you are in over your head. You really need to do some research.

Rates are always good out of Chicago. Typically 10 loads per Truck available. You’ll have to decide which way to go, depending on the return rates. Rates to Chicago, typically are cheap. For the same reason. Steady return Loads that pay decent will be the challenge.

You may be right about being in over his head, but, asking more knowledgeable people about how to come up with a rate could also be construed as research.

Sign up with DAT load board. One feature allows you to enter city to city and see and average for what it has been paying. Understand that is not set in stone but it will give you an idea.

You'll figure it out quickly. But I want to add, always charge the max you can get, regardless of your operating costs. Try to drive freight prices up. People that haul cheap consistently just screw themselves and everyone else. If you never get turned down because your price is too high, then your price is too low. People turning you down on a regular basis, but you're also getting plenty of work is a good indicator that you're pushing right on the edge.
