I wish the planners would hurry up, cause im getting tired of pulling over all the time to do a mac 32 "no". What could be so hard about looking at a drivers hours before dispatching? :mmad::

Just like they dont read our daily check calls , which tells how many hrs we have for that day. They don't read them.

Add to that, gents, the fact that there are people in the office that don't even know how the HOS rules work. They can look at your hours all week, but if they don't understand the law, it's just more numbers on a computer screen.

That's the problem. Companies hire these whiz kids straight out of college, with no time spent in a truck. They have no concept of what our job is/what it entails. I've thought for a long time that as part of the training for their jobs (especially customer service, load planning, fleet manager/ops) they should be required BEFORE they start their job-specific training to 1) get a CDL and 2) do 3-6 weeks out with a trainer. Now before anyone starts hollering, I'm not trying to increase competition for the miles out there. Just want to make sure that before they make these wild ### promises to customers or "load plan" more than their usual practice of "load.....driver.......match" they have at least a small idea of what goes on when we tell them "are you KIDDING?". Probably not a perfect idea....but might open some of their eyes.

So they have APU's in their trucks. What kind of APU and does it work good with heat and a/c ? How fast are the trucks ?

Mostly they are TK Tripacs. There are a few Carriers running around. The heater on the Tripac is an Espar fuel fired heater, and that thing will melt you right out of the bunk if you want it to.

The A/C is good until you get to 90-100 degrees outside, and then I've found that it works if you turn on the bunk HVAC controls and use those fans to boost the movement of the cold air. It's not going to be chilly in the cab, but with everything cranked to high, it can be comfortable on a 100 degree day.

Trucks are ~65 mph. Some are 64ish, some are 65ish, some are 66ish. Mine tops out at 65.5 according to the GPS
