    Hey Scooter,
I respect Efon, but it is just ridiculous that rumors go around that drivers cannot idle at May. I know that's not what he said, but idling is not an issue with May anymore.

    May is a good company.

My first summer out in 2009 I was charged for idling above the 25% threshold. My trainer didn't even know that there was a process in place to report the over-idle via qual-comm. Neither was the process explained in orientation or any written information. Does May now have a policy in place where the new guy is told in orientation or in writing what to do if one has to over-idle above the described percentages?

They made idle policy super clear in my orientation at Layton. I think after they lost a few angry drivers who got big charges for idling, May realized they better well inform everyone. Good drivers are way more valuable than some gallons of fuel.

And "micromanagement"? New drivers yes; experienced drivers should know enough to brush it off. Once your DM sees that you are constantly delivering ON TIME without constant goof ups, he should know he does not have to watch you all the time.

Once again, all the big companies micromanage their inexperienced drivers.

I would consider May to be a great company to start with. Their equipment, besides most dry vans (we all know those) is great. But, for an experienced guy who can handle things on his own and only needs communication for loads or issues, May would not be good fit in my opinion. That's all I was trying to convey.

You can have a lot more freedom and higher pay elsewhere.

This whole post belongs in the compost bin. May Trucking is making a profit no matter what you the driver does, and rightfully so. How ever I also worked for May and had my DM call me back when I was in Cheyenne Wy in Jan I put in a idle request, no bunk heater in my truck and tell me be a man the sun is up now, it was -10 degrees, no idle authorizations. I idled anyway and they charged me.

They provide almost no trailer maintenaance , they wont even was the trailers, I had a trailer door fall off a preloaded sealed trailer going down the road.(Turns out the shop in OR just repaired that door), The final straw I was suppose to swap trailers with another driver in Albuquerque I had 2 tires that were flat, cord showing on the sidewall, a rock had probably been carried between them would be my guess, But forcing them to put on tires before I would hook up to it cost me my safety bonus, then the next the had on a load going between Phx and Bkrsfld I ran out on my 11 and was near home so I took my 10 off at the house, they called me to tell me that was not allowed. Delivered the load, bobtailed back to the Mira Loma yard told them see ya.

They want you to run the long way, pay you the short miles, stop frequently for fuel , way too controlling. I would guess England Swift would all be better choices.

Experience does not equal May Truck

All I can say is that my experience at May was fine. If I had a bone to pick with May, I would leave a post like some of those I read here. But they treated me well, gave me miles, and a 5 cent bonus that bumped the pay up to 42 cents. That made a big difference. If I did it all for 37 cents maybe I would not be writing anything here!

My terminal, Layton, has a great group of people: laid-back and friendly compared to Brooks which is more corporate. My DM was super friendly. We got along great.

    And no....LOL, I am not a recruiter!

PS: And the equipment was the best I ever drove, so complaints about May's equipment make no sense to me. But I did get a pretty new Pete since I was experienced. It was my first Pete, and I loved it. The trailers were in great shape. Never ever saw--or got stuck with--a dropped trailer with a flat. Can't say that about other companies I worked for.

But they have a zero bobtailing policy. (Which means you gotta live near one of their terminals or drop yards.) And the trucks only run 61 mph. Other than that, no complaints.

Rumor has it that there's a new class-action suit regarding idling charges.

Some driver like being managed, Some like to just let them do the job they were hired for.
Im too old to have to call someone and get permission to be comfortable, or be told how to get from Denver to Spokane.

I understand some driver thrive on being told what to do, but for me, I dont tj=hjnk so which is why Im not there.

As Far as equipment, They had decent tractors, it was the trailers that were lacking in maintanance, and in poor condition. I was inspected 4 times at May and all 4 trailers failed the inspections. tires, air leaks/brakes, air leaks suspension. and was a broken spring. All 4 had been written up and I was instructed to roll the load the "trailers were legal".

Maybe theyve changed, not know only know about when I was there.

2000 2001 but rarely do leopards change there spots. Or the or one they will give you a ticket so you can get your tractor washed , but forbid you from getting the trailers washed.
