Nighttime driving vs Daytime

I enjoy running at night, like you said traffic is not as bad and some of the scale houses are closed. just watch out for the drunks and the sleepy heads.
there is no dot regulations about running day verses nights. if you have the legal hours to drive it dont matter if its day or night just mash your motor and take off.
but you are not always going to be able to run just at night. if your going otr than your going to be doing alot of both. it aint no 9-5 job.

 

Some companies do run at night.

A small percentage of weigh stations are open at night. The traffic is lighter and alot of truckers enjoy the solitude of the night and like sleeping during the day.

 

yeah i would prefer running at night when i start driving, im assuming alot less chatter on the radio?

 

There seems to be chatter anytime of the day...sometimes they chatter at night to stay awake....lol.
They always got something to say......

 

I've been wondering this also for when i get a driving job, I'm one of those people that prefers to sleep during the day, night time has less distractions and i am able to concentrate on what i am doing and be more productive cause i dont have to worry about rush hour traffic and some moron on his cell phone who cant seem to notice a 40 ton truck thats about to run him over and kill him (you see lots of that driving around Dallas)


my only concern was the whole keeping the truck cool and warm during winter and summer issue, i plan to work for Schneider so i know that idling is pretty much out of the question, and i know that an APU on a Schneider company truck is about as rare as a honest politician.

anyone use idleaire? how much does it cost and do you think it is really worth it?

 

The chatter around here is much different at night. Less profanity, less stupertruckers, less arguing.

 

How do you deal with deliveries on a night schedule? If someone wants it delivered at a specific time (say, no earlier than 3pm) you're kinda screwed it seems.

 

If you are running irregular route, you are at the mercy of your appointment times.

If you pull a reefer, you run into some grocery warehouses that take the cold stuff in at night, and you will be driving into and out of these locations at night whether you want to or not.

Other places are only open during daytime hours, so you will be delivering in the daytime, whether you want to or not.
